Care

Looking after them takes about a minute a year

There is no upkeep, no feeding and nothing to remember. There are four things worth knowing, and only one of them really matters.

  1. 01

    They never need water

There is nothing living in them, so water does nothing useful. It will mark the fibre and rust the wire inside the stem. You can stand them in a vase as long as it is dry.

  2. 02

Keep them out of direct sun

This is the only thing that will actually shorten their life. Strong direct sunlight over months will fade the dyes, particularly the pinks. A bright room is fine. A sunny windowsill, over a year, is not.

  3. 03

    Dust every few months

Use a soft make-up brush, a clean paintbrush, or a hairdryer on cool and low. Work outward from the centre of each flower. A whole bouquet takes about a minute.

  4. 04

    Reshape with your fingers

There is wire inside every stem and petal, which is what makes them hold a shape. If a petal gets bent, bend it back. You will not break it, and this is the part people are most nervous about and least need to be.

What they are actually made of

Pipe cleaner stems, which are a wire core wrapped in a soft fibre nap, plus cotton fibre for the centres and detail work. That combination is why the petals have a texture close to felt up close, and why every part of the flower can be bent and will stay where you put it.

It is also why there is no expiry. Nothing in a finished piece is organic, so there is nothing to decay, wilt, drop or smell. Kept out of direct sun, a bouquet made today will look the same in ten years.

If something happens to it

It got squashed in a bag
Reshape it with your fingers, petal by petal. It will come back. This is the single most common message we get and the answer is always the same.
It got wet
Stand it upside down somewhere dry and airy, not in sun and not near a heater. It will usually recover. If the wire has rusted through, send a photograph.
A stem came loose
Push it back into the wrap. If the binding has gone, message us. We repair our own work for free.
The colour has faded
That is sunlight, and it is not reversible. Move it somewhere shadier. If it happened within the first year, that is not normal, so tell us.
