Repetition is not the same as sameness. The difference is where a bouquet becomes convincing.

A hundred and forty is a number we know before the first fold, because a run that long sets the pace of everything after it. This week the bench carried a run that size, rows of petals headed for one bouquet. Shaping so many in sequence is a different kind of work from making a single flower, with a slow beginning, a long middle where the hand settles, and an end where the real risk sits.

A run begins slowly, and it is meant to. The first petals are not the quickest; they are the ones that fix the rhythm every later petal has to match. We shape one, hold it against the one before it, and let the hand learn the curve before asking it to repeat that curve a hundred more times. Once the rhythm settles the pace lifts, but the standard was set in those first slow minutes.

The hard part is not accuracy. Any single petal is easy. Holding one curve a hundred and forty times over, by eye and with no jig to lean on, is the whole of the skill, and the trap inside that repetition is not error. It is sameness. A petal that has to match its neighbour must still carry the small turn and the slight lean that keep a flower looking grown rather than drawn.

Fatigue is the quiet risk in a long run, and it works by subtraction. The line we are shaping toward is not a machine-perfect one. What we are after is harder to measure: a piece in which every flower plainly belongs with the rest, and not one of them looks repeated.
